Resolutions

Any New Year Resolutions I have made in the past have been the usual 'must lose weight' and 'must get rid of clutter' type ones, which generally fall by the wayside before January is out.
But this year, I have put more thought into what is important and in the hope of keeping to them, I shall write them in stone for the world to witness . . . well, write them on my blog for at least a few people to read.

So, in no particular order . . . . .

#1  Keep to a budget of £40 or less for weekly shopping;
#2  Cut out the use of plastic as much as possible;
#3  Collect litter from our beaches on every visit;
#4  Really concentrate on increasing exercise, losing weight, lowering cholesterol levels and blood pressure;
#5  Go camping in my tent at least 3 times, hopefully more;
#6  Get Benji down to 9Kg (presently 12.20Kg);
#7  Decorate at least the living room and the hall in my home;
#8  Get my paints and brushes out again after a break of more than a year - I have LOTS of blank canvases to fill;
#9  Maintain the garden without relying on help except for the high hedges.
#10  De-clutter!

So there they are; I shall look back at the end of every month and make a note of how I'm doing with each one.  Targets set - here's to a successful year of BEING BETTER

  3. Some good resolutions there. It's so sad to see the litter on the lovely beaches. I've just been for an evening walk around our local park only to see someone's dumped a whole single bed in the river that runs through the park!!

  6. I can't do resolutions feels like someone telling me what to do!

    So much rubbish everywhere, heard on local radio this morning about 13 black sacks of rubbish just left by a road all at once

    1. The way I look at it - it's ME that is telling myself what to do, to better my health, to do my small bit in protecting the planet and to be the best I can.

  7. Anyone who watched the last episode of 'Blue Planet' which featured the horrifying effect that plastic had on the creatures and corals in our oceans would want to rid the world of plastics. I felt ashamed to be part of the human race when I watched this programme; it was a sobering and emotional documentary to watch.

  8. A very respectable list! I could do many the same, except substituting both my cats for your Benji :) Good luck. I find sometimes just writing down my thoughts helps keep them front of mind. Otherwise, I just don't think of some of them at all.

    1. I've listed them in the front of my 2018 Diary and intend to check each one at the end of every month.
      Going to the beach tomorrow to have lunch and a catch-up with a friend, so I have put my bag-for-rubbish in my coat pocket!!

  9. An excellent list, and best of luck with all of it.

    In respect of the weight loss, can I recommend just dumping carbohydrates? On 23rd October Husband decided it was time to get rid of the excess weight gained in his last few years at work. As I can't tolerate most carbs (blood sugar probs) he decided to "join me" and stopped eating anything with processed flour and starchy veg. So that meant no bread, cakes, pastries, biscuits, potatoes, rice, pasta etc (that list is not complete!) It's actually been remarkably easy and he is delighted to have lost nearly 10 kg without any particular "pain".

    Breakfast is bacon & eggs, or scrambled eggs with cheese, lunch is a huge salad topped with ham, or tuna, or similar. Supper is a protein element (portion of meat or fish) and 6 or 7 different vegetables steamed [and served with a big knob of butter :)] He's not hungry and delighted with the weight loss.

    1. Thank you Jayne. I know that advice is accurate because last year I was diagnosed as diabtic and instead of accepting yet more medication, I asked if I could have 6 months to try reversing the diagnosis by diet alone. I found 'Diet Doctor' online, followed the low carb/high fat way of eating , lost more than a stone and after the 6 months, I no longer had any diabetic symptons.
      So I am cutting right down on carbs - but can't resist bread - and having smaller portions.

  10. I've just spent quite some time reading your blog right from the beginning and really enjoyed it. Your flower photos are lovely and there are some gorgeous scenery shots.

    When I first saw a shot of the Caradon tv transmitter I thought for a moment you'd been up my neck of the woods as it looks very similar, and is in a similar location, to the Winter Hill transmitter not far from my home - Google tells me that Caradon is owned and managed by the same company as Winter Hill, although it's shorter in height than Winter Hill.

    The photo of the Roundhouses at Veryan was interesting - I got several shots of some Roundhouses myself on the Norfolk coast last year, they are part of a small holiday complex and used for holiday lets. I was actually invited to see inside one and it looked lovely.

    I loved the photo of Casper the cat with the little bandage on his leg, he looks really cute, but I have to confess I had tears in my eyes when I read about Zac passing away - I've been through that twice in recent years and I know just how you felt. It's such a shame that they can only be with us for a relatively short time as they have so much love and companionship to give us. If you go back through my blog you'll be able to read about Sam (2015) and little Sugar who I lost in December the year before. I'm glad you've now got little Benji though, he looks adorable. Dogs certainly turn a house into a home don't they?

    I must admit that I don't do New Year resolutions - I really don't see the point - but yours is a good list (especially No.5!) so I hope you manage to fulfill them all during the year and I'm really looking forward to reading more of your blog :)

    1. Eunice, welcome to my blog and thank you for taking the time and trouble to read it all. My camping trip last September was a real test - for the tent and for Benji. I had never used that tent before so I had no idea if it would stand up to high winds, so Storm Aileen was a good test! Benji, a 7 year old rescue dog, only came to me last April and was extremely obese through being crated for most of his life, had never been camping before and I had doubts about whether he would put an end to my camping trips, if he yapped at every little noise or got upset - but he was a little star; slept through the storm and as long as I was there, he was happy.
      Since that trip I have bought a porch extension so that we have a bit more room, so I need to practise attaching that to the tent before taking it away. (The instructions seem Double Dutch!!!) Roll on the good weather.

  12. Good luck, that's a long list of resolutions. Mine usually fail by the end of January too, so this year's it's just one resolution (lose weight) which I've made SMART, with details. Hopefully I will do better this year.

  15. Your list of resolutions is a good one and I have some of the same. Declutter, yes. Help dog lose a little weight, yes again. I adopted my dog ten days after the sudden death of my husband and he is a big light in my life.
