Not quite sure how I managed it but I fell up the concrete steps leading to my kitchen door today. In the process, I head-butted a heavy stone lion statue, knocking it down the steps and smashing a large pot containing tulips, bashed my shoulder into the door frame, grazed both knees and somehow gained a deep'ish cut on the bottom of my foot, underneath my big toe. (I was wearing sandals.)
All in all, quite a nasty event. Then as I sat there, wondering on the best way to get back on my feet, there was a sudden icy shower of hailstones. Benji, faithful dog, immediately scrambled underneath my legs to gain some shelter! By the time I had checked for blood and broken bones I was soaked and flippin' freezing, but by turning to get my feet on the lowest step and hanging on to the wooden banister, I eventually managed to pull myself upright and hobbled indoors.
Gave Benji a thorough towelling to dry his curly coat, cleaned my foot with kitchen towel and warm water, slapped some Savlon on and attached a plaster, then made a reviving cup of tea and sat down with it to recover my senses.
I think a couple of Paracetamol will be useful tonight at bedtime, so that I can be comfortable and get some sleep.
Tomorrow, I will lift the lion back on to his step and check that no damage was done. And I will re-pot the tulips.
Ohhhhhhh nooooooooo!!!! I am so sorry! That must have been a very, very nasty fall!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSandals.... Oh my, I can never wear them. Have to have tie shoes, like an old lady. But! I am an old lady! ,-) They do keep me more steady on my feet, though.
Do hope you are not "the worse for wear," tomorrow. But just in case, perhaps you ought to let the lion lay, where he is.... For a couple of days. No need straining any more muscles!
Gentle hugs....
I rather suspect it was my sandals at fault; I think the sole got caught under the edge of the step. I do love wearing sandals but I think I might have to wear something more sensible in future. Us old ladies have to be sensible, don't we?? Lol, lol. Oh the joys of getting older . . .
DeleteWhat a horrid shock, hope the paracetamol works and you feel better this morning. Sandra
ReplyDeleteRather sore but it could have been a lot worse. I shall live!
DeleteOOh dear. That really sounds nasty. A sofa day or five wouldn't be unreasonable - but I have a feeling you are a bit tough. Looking after yourself anyway.
ReplyDeleteFeeling sorry for myself and admiring the bruises and cuts, Mary. I'm sure things will improve within a few days. Luckily I have no hard and fast plans for going out.
DeleteOuch that was a nasty fall. I expect you will be feeling a bit bruised and sore today. Be careful with that lion.
ReplyDeleteI've left the lion exactly where he fell; didn't feel like lugging him around.
DeleteHope you manage to get a good nights rest and that you are feeling a little better. Take care.
ReplyDeleteNope - impossible to sleep because I couldn't find a comfortable way to lie. I think I shall sleep tonight, though.
DeleteI know how nasty that is, having had a similar fall some years ago....but without the lion. You should maybe lie low for a couple of days to counteract the shock.
ReplyDeleteWill do, Barbara. Staying in and counting the bruises!
DeleteOh wow....that takes the 'stuffing' out of you, doesn't it? Um..you may not be quite up to hauling lions and digging in tulips after that..maybe not for a few days eh. Hope a good nights sleep helps. And Benji....what a hero lol.
ReplyDeleteLittle monkey! He hates getting wet - unless it's under a warm shower when I shampoo him. Cold rain is a definite NO NO!!
DeleteThe lion and tulips remain in situ - they can't fall any further, can they? Lol, lol.
April 5th
ReplyDeleteHow are you, today??????????????????
Tired - no sleep last night because I couldn't get comfortable, thanks to the bruising. Rather sore, as can be expected, but I'm sure things will improve within the next few days. Thank you for asking. xx
ReplyDeleteA fall can be not only physically painful, but also a shock to the system and a reminder of how much harder it is to bounce back than in younger days (speaking from experience).
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself!
Very true.
DeleteThat was a nasty fall you had, though I hope by now you're feeling a little less delicate. Do take it easy for a day or two, though if things don't improve then best get yourself checked out - and leave the lion where it is for now.
ReplyDeleteThe lion is still fallen! I shall sort him and the tulips out when I feel less sore.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, falls happen so quickly. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's the getting up again that's the problem! Still sore but at least I slept last night.
