Caerhays Castle, Gorran, St.Austell, Cornwall.

Caerhays is home to the x williamsii camellia hybrids but is perhaps best known for its huge, Asiatic magnolias which are usually in their prime in March and April. Caerhays hosts the Plant Heritage National Collection of Magnolias with over 500 different varieties on show. There are also over 80 UK record sized trees in the gardens as measured by height and girth.
Opposite the Castle entrance is Porthluney cove, a private beach which is open to the public.

Still some late daffodils to be seen.

    1. They are truly magnificent, Doc. Some of the trees are extremely tall and smothered in blooms. The gardens are only open while the magnolias are at their best, between mid-February and mid-June.

  2. We spent many happy hours on that beach when the kids were little. We used to camp on a farm just up the road from there and walk to the beach daily. Happy days!

    1. It's a lovely quiet beach, isn't it? Nowadays there's a cafe in the field next to the beach, which is also the parking area, so it can get busier than previously.

  3. A castle in Cornwall surrounded by blooming beauty. Lovely photos. Can't you just imagine living in those stone walls surrounded by such beauty. How romantic.

  4. What beauty! Magnolias are uncommon where I live, and the blooms are very short-lived as well, but I love to see them.

That castle is very eye-catching as well.

  7. On Netflix, when there isn't much to choose from the telly, I found Doc Martin based from a set in the fictional seaside village of Portwenn and filmed on location in the village of Port Isaac, Cornwall, England. Is this the same place? I loved that series!

    1. Welcome, Gabrielle! Cornwall is the county at the south-western tip of the UK, surrounded almost entirely by sea, where 'Doc Martin' is filmed and where I'm lucky enough to live. If ever you get the chance to visit this magical place, there are so many beautiful areas of Cornwall for you to see, Port Isaac being typical of many of the seaside villages. Personally, I love the quieter places, the little coves that remain quiet and peaceful even when Cornwall is crowded with tourists throughout the summer. I hope you enjoy the photos within my blog. -Rosemary x
