Golitha Falls is indeed a very ancient woodland, mentioned in The Domesday Book ordered by King William the Conqueror and published in 1086.
It's a National Nature Reserve, important for its liverwort, lichens and mosses.
To me, it's a well-loved place of beauty, tranquility and peace completed by the sounds of birdsong and the River Fowey as it makes its way from its source on Bodmin Moor to the harbour of Fowey.
The path was a bit tricky here as some of the path had fallen into the river, thanks to the incessant rain of the winter months.
The lichen- and moss-covered trees and rocks are testament to the pure air in this area.

I tried to add a video of Otters playing in the river at Golitha Falls, but the best I can do is the link. It's a YouTube video - if you highlight the link and right-click, you should find on the list a direction to view it.
Otherwise, highlight the link, copy it and open in a new tab.
Enjoy!
You live in a beautiful part of the country.
ReplyDeleteI do indeed, Sue. I appreciate it every day.
DeleteBeautiful scenery...and cute Benji.
ReplyDeleteHe likes this place but never goes too close to the water. Benji no like water!
DeleteWhat an amazing place to take a walk . . . it looks like a place where fairies might live. Did you see any?
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough, when I took a friend there for the first time, she remarked that it was like visiting a secret fairy glen. When the white dandelion seeds are drifting on the breeze, they could easily be mistaken for fairies. I'm prepared to believe they are there and I'm sure my little grand-daughter would agree.
DeleteA lovely place for a walk, I love woodland and water - and Benji looks cute too :)
ReplyDeleteHe's cute alright - and stubborn and selectively deaf at times!
DeleteA magical walk through time and a feast for the eyes. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes, the feeling there can be like walking in a different century. Very beautiful indeed especially when no-one else is there. But then it sometimes seems spooky as well and I feel like it's time to go. Oo-er!
DeleteYou took us on an amazing stroll, a true feast for the eyes. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
DeleteCornwall is a truly lovely place to live, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Even after 30+ years, I still think it's magical and have to pinch myself to see if I'm really living here.
DeleteThe green of the mosses and lichens everywhere is beautiful. That last shot is especially nice!
ReplyDeleteIt really is a beautiful place but my photos only show part of its treasures. Trout lay and hatch their eggs in the shallow, sandy inlets along the river; there are definitely otters living there (I've added a YouTube video) and kingfishers, as well as nuthatches, tree creepers, woodpeckers, etc.
Deletewow, looks gorgeous and cant believe I have never been there.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit off the beaten track, but well worth seeking out.
DeleteWOW! It was a nice place to visit. It is a nice place to take a shoot in this area:)
ReplyDeleteHow lovely this all looks.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Oh what a beautiful place!!!!
ReplyDelete-happy sigh-
Read your comment on Elaine's blog.... Concerning dogs, being spooked, by certain things. Your dog would not go by a stone, which was said to be a witch's dog, tuned to stone.
ReplyDeleteMy feeling about such happenings.... Something traumatic happened, at those sites, long ago. Perhaps the woman, who was thought of as a witch, was horribly killed there? And the almost vibrations of a traumatic happening, actually linger, in that area.
Humans can't usually feel such. But dogs (and certain people) can! And they react to this. Of course, dogs can't tell us, what they feel. So they simply do not want to go past such a place.
A possibility....
A family pet, has to feel something, to react in such a way! They don't decide to "make something up." It is up to us, to try to figure out, what caused it.
Thank you for you comment. It was very interesting. I had an experience, to relate there, in her blog comments, too. :-)
the blog I mentioned is Elaine's blog...
DeleteThank you for visiting and commenting. Just been scrolling through some of your posts. I love Cornwall. Had a great time staying near Fowey 3 years ago and getting to visit many places.
